I'm so glad to finally be able to post here! (Thanks Mike!)
I was lucky enough to have found Eric Rasmussen, who owns a fantastic shop out here in Portland. One day I was browsing through his plant selection and a curious little face poked out from behind the bacopas and watched me for a few minutes. Eric told me what kind of fish he was, and I went home and started digging up every little bit of information I could, which unfortunately was not a lot. Until I found this site. So here I am!
I'd been lurking around for several weeks, actually, before I decided to register. I was so encouraged by all the lively conversation that goes on here, people who actually take their fish as seriously as I do mine. I really hate it when I try to show people my fish (I have six tanks at the moment), and I start talking about their habitats and personalities, and by the time I get to tank #3 they get this glazed look in their eyes.... Well, here's hoping I'm finally among people who share my passion, and won't mind too much when I talk about my fish!
So that curious little fish in Eric's plant tank... it was a male A. splendens, and I brought him (and another male and two females) home last Saturday. He's now happily settled in a bright, algae-covered tank by my kitchen window. They're all eating well (a little picky, but they do eat heartily when they like what I give them), and the females are starting to dance, so with any luck I'll be asking you guys for some breeding advice real soon.
Cheers! |

Hey there,
You certainly had a bit of luck walking into Eric's shop. I met him for the first time a few weeks ago and he is an excellent guy and very knowledgeable about livebearers and fish in general (you will have to talk him into coming onto this forum).
You have a nice species to start with in Ameca splendens.
Good luck and welcome. |

Hi,
Welcome and goodluck ! Xiphophorus nezahualcoyotl is a very nice looking wild sword. One of my favorites. Let us know if you have a particular fish you are having trouble finding. Someone on the site is likley to have it.

Oops! Sorry Duncan!
I talked to Eric today, he says hello to everyone. Says the shop keeps him too busy these days, so he probably won't have a lot of time to come here, but he appreciates the warm hellos from you guys.

Welcome. You have found a place with great people. It is my experience that they are willing to share both information and fish. Let us know if you are looking for something.
